Privacy Policy

This page explains what information Rural Prospector collects, how we use it, and how to contact us if you have questions. We are not a lawyer and this is not legal advice; if you need a formal answer about your specific situation, please consult one.
What we collect
When you visit the site
We collect basic usage information that arrives automatically with any web request: your IP address (which we hash before storing — the raw IP is never persisted), your browser's user-agent string, and the referring URL that sent you to us. We use this to understand which sources drive traffic and to detect abuse.
When you search an address
The address you enter is sent to our backend to generate a report, and it's stored in our logs for the duration needed to operate the service. We do not sell or share address-level queries with third parties.
When you sign up for launch updates
We store the email address you submit, the source page it came from, and (if relevant) the address you were viewing at the time. If you provide a first name, we store that too. We use this only to send the launch-update emails or product notifications you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
When you purchase a report
Stripe handles every step of payment processing. We never see your credit card number, expiration, or CVC — those go directly to Stripe. From Stripe we receive: your email address, your name (if you provided one), the amount you paid, any promotion code used, and a payment confirmation. We store this so we can: (a) email you your report link, (b) process a refund if you request one, and (c) provide customer support.
When you submit feedback
If you thumbs-up or thumbs-down a report, that rating and any comment is stored along with the address, county, and report details so we can improve the model. Your name and email are optional; we don't require them.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your email address.
- We don't share your address queries or report contents with third parties.
- We don't use third-party advertising trackers (no Google Ads pixel, no Meta pixel, no LinkedIn Insight tag at the time of writing). If we add analytics later, we'll choose privacy-respecting options like Plausible.
- We don't store credit card information.
Service providers we use
Rural Prospector is built on the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that applies to the data they receive on our behalf:
- Stripe — payment processing. See stripe.com/privacy.
- Resend — transactional + marketing email delivery. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Mapbox — address geocoding. See mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
- Cloudflare — DNS + traffic routing. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Vercel — frontend hosting. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Railway / Neon — backend + database hosting.
Cookies
Rural Prospector uses a small amount of localStorage(not cookies) to remember a few preferences in your browser: whether you've already signed up for the email list (so we don't nag you), and your unlock token if you've purchased a report (so you can come back to it later). None of this is shared with any third party.
Your rights
You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@ruralprospector.com from the email address you want to look up, and we'll respond within 7 days. If you're in a jurisdiction with formal data rights (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), the same email address handles those requests too.
Changes
If we make a material change to this policy we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and post a notice on the site. We don't maintain a mailing list of past visitors just to notify them about policy changes; if you have an account or purchase on file we'll email you directly about anything material.
